ARE HBCUs STILL RELEVANT? YES!

By Samori Swygert

A question that will recurrently buoy to the educational surface is, “Are HBCUs still relevant?”  My response is an emphatic and resounding yes!  Before delving into the matter of their relevance, it is imperative for all participants in the discussion to have a firm historical perspective on racial policies in America.  Prior to Brown vs. Topeka board of education, prior to Bull Connor, prior to the Little Rock 9, prior to separate but equal, it used to be illegal for African Americans to learn to read, and a book was considered contraband to slaves.

I would like to consider other facts in establishing my case.  Slavery was abolished in 1865.  The top notch universities that are still revered as elite institutions of education were functioning well before 1865.  Harvard University was established in 1636, Yale University was established in 1701, Princeton University was established in 1746, Columbia University was established in 1754, Brown University was established in 1764, and Cornell University was established the same year as slavery was abolished, 1865.  You must gain an accurate temporal relationship with these dates in correlation with the timeframe of slavery.  These dates indicate that young white students were privileged enough to gain an education while blacks were concurrently enslaved!  White students were afforded the head start, and momentum to create and contribute to the society blacks were still seeking freedom and rights in.   The irony of the existence between these two institutions continued for well over a century.  While some young white adults were being educated in science, math, literature, politics, engineering, and the arts in a comfortable environment, black children and adults performed strenuous and laborious tasks under a harsh, violent, and unsolicited system.  Learning was encouraged in these institutions of education, and learning was discouraged and denied in slavery, complete polar opposites.

When slavery was abolished and the reconstruction era started, it still was difficult for the newly freed slaves to thrive in this new society.  Despite their new found freedom, admission into institutions of higher learning was still denied and the sheer cost alone was almost impossible.  How were African Americans able to gain an education on a mass scale to compete with their white counterparts in society?

There are many stories and cases of blacks that matriculated into Ivy League schools overtime. However, there was no single institution that facilitated the mass education of African Americans until Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  The movement to create institutions specifically geared toward the education of blacks across the country empowered the African American race, and propelled them forward.  Once afforded this opportunity to learn, it fostered a change in their lifestyle because they gained the competence and confidence to compete, and take command over their own destiny.  HBCUs gave blacks more independence.  African Americans did not have to attend traditionally white institutions in order to gain a degree.  The obstacles on their road to progress began dwindling.  Time proved that blacks were just as educable, competitive, innovative, and intelligent as whites.  The deprivation and denial of resources, time, land, and money was the only difference.  A classic historical example made evident was the debate team legacy of Wiley College portrayed in the movie, The Great Debaters.

The Journey Continues

As we continue down the timeline we’ll see black law schools, medical schools, dental schools, nursing schools, pharmacy schools, and business schools emerge, and an exponential production of well trained black professionals.  The HBCUs began a legacy of greatness that compounded with each year of existence. They established a rich heritage of inspirational stories of triumph, and success that each black student can relate and aspire to.  They are the true stories and examples of “pulling yourself up by the boot strap”.

But why an HBCU?

The key attribute about HBCUs is that they tell students they can make it.  Yes, HBCUs will take those high scholastic performing students, and they will also take that borderline student and hinge their bets on that borderline student’s potential.  It’s said that many African American students may not be afforded the opportunity to an Ivy League college due to stringently high academic criteria, theorized institutional bias, or the exorbitantly high cost of education.  Whatever the reasons may be that some black
students don’t attend Ivy League or traditionally white institutions, HBCUs provide a unique empowering and educational haven for black success.   If a student may be average, borderline, or insecure, the HBCU provides a positive identity for that student and a sense of pride.

A question of identity

In American History classes, students will hear about the brilliance of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, John Kennedy and more.  So white students have symbols of success they can identify with.  That identity encourages them to do better, or replicate their historical models of success.  However, the under-emphasis of black success in American History classes may leave young black students feeling hopeless and devoid of any historical pride, and thus have low expectation and standards of themselves.

At HBCUs student will be in classes with peers of the same color, some of similar stories that they can relate to and share true inspiration and motivation to get through their journey.  The second component of identity that HBCUs provide is within the history.  Students are taught in University 101 about how blacks like themselves were able to achieve success despite the social odds against them.  The students can look at George Washington Carver and say “a black man did all this”.  The student can read about the life of Charles Drew and his medical achievements and say “that was a black man”.  They can look at Black Greek Letter Organizations and see the positive power in the unity of young blacks that are devoted to one common cause.  Students can walk the halls and see the statues of great blacks, and say “I’m much greater than the stereotypes and statistics that the media portrays”.  They are surrounded by professors that have a concept of the racial struggle for equality for blacks, and thus have a genuine vested interest in giving the best education they can to further the posterity of each generation of students.

You can’t plead the same exact case for Ivy League and Non-HBCU institutions of higher learning.  HBCUs reaffirm the greatness in the potential of every black student if provided that opportunity, because it gives them multiple frames of reference.  The student can always look at past and recent historical black diamonds that may have just been a piece of coal that needed careful positive pressure. Since their inception to contemporary times, HBCUs have their niche and their need!

I cringe at the thought of all the talented black youth that have potential, but are not afforded the opportunity for higher education, and are sometimes temporarily or permanently locked out of a better way of life.  I also cringe at the thought of the deprivation of such a rich cultural heritage that gives them an identity of greatness, and unlocks all their potential unbeknownst to them.  Ivy League and other Non-HBCU institutions are great and an education in general is wonderful, but it’s my opinion that HBCUs provide a more holistic, nurturing education that compliments the needs of the black student.  So are HBCUs still relevant?  My answer is an emphatic and resounding, YES!! A more serious question to consider is this, “what would have happened to the millions of HBCU graduates that were not admitted to Non-HBCUs if HBCUs didn’t exist?”

How 529 college savings plans can help single parents

college savingsHow 529 college savings can help single parents

by: Dr. Samori Swygert

It’s important that we become more and more acquainted with finances.  The lack of financial knowledge can and will keep us in financial bondage.  Education, and application of knowledge is key to empowering our journey to financial independence.

Many readers may be aware of this simple financial option, but many are not.  I had a discussion with a coworker about 529 college savings plans, and she had no idea about it, or what it was.  She is a hardworking single mom, and as I began sharing this info with her about college savings plans for her son, I saw a light bulb go off in her head, and a smile grace her face.  She had just been enlightened about a financial option that she can research and use.  I then proceeded to ask several more of my young female coworkers that are single mothers, and the response was the same.  I shared the information with them.

I’m not a financial advisor.  However, I spend tremendous amounts of time reading different material, and I enjoy sharing information that can transform someone’s life.

So for all households, and single parents, I advise you to visit the United States Securities and Exchange website here:  http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/intro529.htm

This link will give you a healthy resource, and wealth of knowledge on 529  College Savings plans.  This is VERY IMPORTANT, because the cost of attending college has skyrocketed, and the cost of attending should not be a reason to not attend.  Planning is key, and as parents, our children should not have to assume mounds of debt at an early age, and as a parent you don’t want this expense hanging over your head.  We also must take into consideration the job market and its’ unpredictability.

Briefly, a 529 College Savings plan is a program provided to citizens to help save money for college.  Every state has one!  There are tax benefits to it.  You can contribute to it regularly like a 401 k.  The funds in the account must be specifically used for college expenses.  Your child is referred to as the “beneficiary”.  There are penalties if you use this for expenses unrelated to college expenses.  There are also penalties if you withdraw money from the account before it’s time for college.  For instance, if you withdraw money early to pay for a home improvement project, you will be hit with income tax and 10% federal tax.  You can also roll savings to other state plans if you move to another state, but you just need to know your state specific policies.

There are 2 types of 529 plans.  There is a COLLEGE SAVINGS PLAN , and a PREPAID TUITION PLAN.  There are maximum limits for contribution, but that is in excess of $200,000. You also want to know that there are BROKER SOLD and DIRECT SOLD PLANS.  Broker sold plans use a sales broker that charge you a broker fee for their service in managing your 529.  Direct sold plans don’t use a broker and thus you are not paying a broker fee, and have more money to contribute.  However, research is the key.  Read, talk, ask around.

I won’t sit here and give you a fish, but I’m giving you the information you need to learn to fish for financial freedom.  Research the information in the link I provided.  Investigate and see what may be best for you, and take advantage of these financial options early.  This plan is for individuals with kids, but I particularly feel that young single parents should definitely be aware of this, because it can help alleviate some of the stressors of pondering your child’s educational future.

Until next time…..Wash your hands, help someone, save your money, exercise daily, eat healthy, pray regularly, read something new, and tell someone you love them……Dr. Swygert signing off, God Bless.

The importance in salvaging the African American legacy

Black-History-Month-300x202

by: Samori Swygert

It’s imperative that we pick up the baton and carry the torch that was carried by our ancestors.  Our posterity and future is completely dependent on what we do now.  Our elders are dying, and our legacy, heritage, and tradition is dying with them.

Many people ask, “why does a lot of your writing revolve around Afrocentricity?”.  First, the answer is because we need the most help right now.  Secondly, all other cultures embrace all their cultural heritage without pushback from their own.

Dr. Claud Anderson says, “you can walk down the street of Chinatown, Little Italy, and Little Havana”.  We can walk by synagogues and yeshivas.  You can see America’s traditional representation by schools like: George Washington University, American University, or go to Manhattan and shop along Avenue of the Americas, or visit the Jefferson Memorial, Columbus Circle, the Washington Monument, see Mount Rushmore, Kennedy Space Center, visit the Lincoln Theatre, open an account with Bank of America, and we still have sections that fly the confederate flag with pride.  I applaud these other cultures for the protection and preservation of their legacy, because you are supposed to!

What are we leaving as evidence for African Americans, and what will we do to foster a continuum of African American excellence?

Our communities and institutions are in disarray and disrepair. The important thing to remember is, this can be fixed!  Why would any other race help us, if we are not actively trying to improve and ameliorate our situation?

President Barack Obama encouraged us to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, and to stop moaning and groaning. This is why I assert an African American stance in my writings.  Let me be clear!  I’m not talking about developing racism, and hatred. This is about repairing, rehabilitation, and restoration.

My answer is simple and a reiteration of many that have gone before me. We must continue the focus on education with application, foster innovation, and have cultural loyalty.  Our kids must focus on nothing else but learning and application.

The following are my reasons for this stance.  We complained about the verdict of the Trayvon Martin case, and how officers are acquitted of offenses in cases like Rodney King, Oscar Grant, and countless other court cases.  These illustrate the necessity of more African Americans in law school.  This ensures that we have equal representation with our judges, defense and prosecuting attorneys.  We also saw the makeup of the Zimmerman jury pool.  This is why we need to avoid prison because we need more eligible blacks to preside on the jury of our peers.  We’ve also seen how a Pennsylvania judge got busted for taking financial deals to railroad black defendants to jail.

Our children need education to fill positions in banking, real estate, and finance.  This ensures that banking institutions are not conducting biased business and housing loan denials to qualified African Americans.  This reassures fair hiring is being practiced.  We’ve witnessed Bank of America being fined $ 2 million dollars for discriminatory hiring practices that resulted in the denial of over 1000 qualified African American job applicants.

We need our children to enter the political arena.  The more mayors, governors, senators, representatives, supreme court justices, and etc, potentially increases the representation of our concerns and presence in the American political system.  We need blacks that can filibuster the same way Ran Paul can for hours on end.  We need influential black lobbyist and watchdog groups that can keep the community abreast of political issues of grave concern.  This is best illustrated by laws like Stop and Frisk, cumbersome Voter ID laws, striking down sections of the Voting Rights act, the rolling back of Affirmative Action, and even the accessibility of funds for HBCUs.  Yes, we need more African American politicians!

Our children need to continue seeking degrees in education.  School after school is being closed all across America.  The emergence of charter schools are ubiquitous.  This implies that we need more African Americans as teachers, principals, chancellors, superintendents, and school board personnel.   Dr. Juwanza Kunjufu has pointed out in several studies that more effective learning occurs when the student and teacher share the same ethnicity.

There are teachers of various ethnicities that are excellent, because I’ve had some in my educational experience.  However, I feel that a more genuine interest is innately exhibited when a teacher can see themselves in the students they instruct.

A good movie to watch and serve as an illustration is the Dead Poets Society.  You can see  the passion Robin Williams’ character exudes in the education of his students.  You can also see that there was no black child in that movie either!  Moreover, you can see how positively this type of educational setting was received, because it won as Best Film and Best Screenplay in the USA and the UK.  This illustrates how white America viewed culturally devoted educational instruction as positive.  African American teachers may be more understanding of particular behaviors, whereas teachers of other ethnicities may attribute a child behavior to mental disorders and recommend a psych evaluation for your child.

We need more African Americans in the healthcare field.  How would you fill knowing that your doctor is examining you with biased eyes?  Of course not all physicians are bigots, but you would be a liar and fool to say there are none, when there are still open KKK rallies, Neo Nazis, and Skinheads.  There is a bit more comfort in knowing that ideally your physician, nurse, pharmacist, and other healthcare practitioner is providing the best care possible uninfluenced by skin color.  We also need more African Americans in the science and research fields, to produce more data and research on how new drugs and procedures work on our genotype and physiology.  I won’t go into how the Tuskegee experiment was conjured.

Lastly, we need to control our entertainment.  Once we gain control of entertainment, we will be navigating to a brighter future.  This guarantees proper and positive representation in the media.  Our commercials will have equal representation and advertising of our own businesses.  The business owners decide upon the number and type of actors in their commercials and movies.  We can control our image and depiction as movie characters, and control the content of our music. This creates positive imagery for our children to emulate and seek higher heights.

If America is so upset, tired, and concerned about the poor, uneducated, welfare, thug-like, baby momma blacks, then this is all the more reason to support salvaging a positive African American Legacy.  This is all the reason bigots shouldn’t sabotage our decision to improve ourselves unless they want to see us fail.  The more positively independent we become, the less we are the perceived burden.  I feel it is timely and appropriate that we do for self and salvage our legacy via these means.   What do you think?

Author says black people are like chickens being fed into the prison industrial complex

chicken coupe

By: Dr. Samori Swygert

Chicken has long been an international staple in the dietary menus of many humans for centuries.  Chicken provides a high source of protein in its daily nutritional value.  In America, blacks have somehow been pegged with the stigma of chicken and watermelon eating folks (but we know that’s nonsense).  However, if prepared correctly, this avian delicacy can play a part in a savory meal for all ethnicities in America, and yes whites are included!

However, the culinary processing of poultry is not what this article is about!  There is a deeper tie in to this correlation between blacks and chicken.  First, before taking offense, I challenge you to look deeper and have an honest introspective review of us as blacks in contemporary times, and the plots on our lives.  The question I challenge you with is this, “Are you a chicken or an Eagle”?

Scan your local city terrain, and you will see pigeons, in parks you may see or hear the presence of owls and other birds that fly around.  However, you will not see a chicken flying around the streets of L.A., Harlem, D.C., Miami, Chicago and etc.  Chickens like Owls, Ravens, Eagles, Hawks, Doves, and Pigeons, have wings to fly, but you don’t see them flying.  You can even go camping in your nearest forest or State Park, and you will not see a chicken flying around.  Why is that?

Chickens have been mentally conditioned that they can’t fly, and/or don’t have the ability to engage in prolonged flight, or are fattened to the point that their wings can’t support their weight.  Subsequently, they spend the majority of their life walking the grounds subjected to the will of their farmer.   THEY HAVE BEEN DOMESTICATED!  The farmer controls the farm and has constructed a chicken coop to warehouse his commodity, the chicken.

The chicken is unassuming and unassertive and relies on the farmer to provide chicken feed for its food supply.  The farmer does not feed the chicken because he is nutritionally philanthropic.  The farmer has goals and financial objectives for each stage of life of each chicken in his coop.  The savvy farmer routinely feeds the chicken to fatten and plump it, to the maximum desirability for the consumption of his customers and profitability of his business.   When the chicken is at maximum potential, it produces the highest quality and quantity of eggs and meat.

The unassuming chicken allows its offspring to be taken, processed, and sold to the market.  The other plumped chickens are sold for the slaughter of wings, breast and thighs.  Lastly, a select few are choicely preserved for the continuum of breeding and preservation of his business.  By preserving some live chickens, he will always have production.  When he slaughters or sells eggs, he will create two markets of commerce.   This is quota control and inventory management.  The chickens and eggs grow under a well regulated and controlled environment specifically for the financial aggrandizement of their master.

Furthermore, the female chicken is referred to as the Hen and the male chicken is the Rooster.  The Rooster is known throughout the farming community for being a polygamous fowl and will have many Hens nesting at one time.  The Rooster is also referred to as the, “c**k”.  The farmer also will sell Roosters or breed Roosters for entertainment purposes of, “Cockfights”!  This is where other Roosters fight each other and the winning owner gets paid.

Because chickens are unassuming of their ability, potential, and independence they are captured, caged and domesticated, and subsequently their whole lineage is subjected to domestication.  In human terms, domestication equals incarceration and control.

Who are the customers of this farmer?  The customers are now the private prison corporations, the military, careless educational systems, and other correctional facilities.

What does this American farmer feed his chickens to plump them for maximum desirability? The chicken feed is Crack-cocaine, alcohol and other designer drugs that keep us unassuming, noncompetitive, complacent, docile, and in violation of the law (fattened and prepared for prison).

Who are the Hens that watch over and control the coop?  The Hens are preselected black leaders and entertainers that urge us to remain in the coop, or men that exert physical control of homes and communities, but provide no quality influence over family and community structure or future progress. We are engaged in “cockfights” as military soldiers for big government desires for global control, and domestic benefit of slave labor in prison when we kill each other.

I believe we are eagles, capable of our own freedom of flight, and keen perception of independence to feed and provide for ourselves and families.   Eagles build their own nest, determine their future, and will fight to the death for their offspring.  I favor the story of Rev. CL Franklin about The Eagle Stirs Her Nest.  I encourage us all to be eagles and teach the power of flight to our fellow friends, and family to get off this farm.  Peace!

Dr. Samori Swygert: Asteroid has so much gold that it’s worth $20 Trillion Dollars!!

gold treasureBy: Dr. Samori Swygert

I’m very passionate about sharing knowledge with people.  I fervently believe knowledge should be shared and not hoarded for personal gain.  I would like to share some info about Gold that many of you may not be aware of.  There is Gold in space, and tons of it!

Have you ever wondered what NASA does in space?  We routinely hear how a new shuttle has launched into space off of Cape Canaveral, and later we welcome it back to earth to much fanfare for a safe return.  The news outlets never really go into depth about what they discovered in space.  Yes we understand that they have built spacestations, there may be life on Mars, new planets have appeared in our galaxy, but that is typically the extent.  What they don’t fully disclose, but you have to research, is the amount of wealth this country and others are competing for, a literal STARS WARS.

 What’s it worth in $?

The United States is no longer focused solely on “their GOD” (Gold. Oil. Diamonds).  These material items are not my GOD.  However, the United States is “Asteroid Mining”.   According to an article from the BBC, an asteroid named, Eros, has been noted to contain 20,000 million Tonnes of Aluminum, and equal amounts of Gold, and Platinum. This data that I’m reporting is old news to the space community, because that article was published July 22, 1999.  The asteroid itself is quoted to be worth $20,000bn.  Yes the numbers, commas, and units of monetization are correct; please view the original article at your leisure from reference number one.1 Scientists report that an asteroid less than a mile in diameter could be worth $20 Trillion dollars, because of the precious and industry metals within it.2 Brent Spiner reported to Forbes Magazine, that there approximately 9,000 asteroids in Earth’s vicinity that are available for mining.3

Who are the players?

Many billionaires and privately owned mining firms are jumping into these unbelievable expeditions.  A few of these companies are: Space X, Planetary Resources, and Deep Space Industries.  Google executive Larry Paige and ex-presidential candidate Ross Perot have even invested with the company, Planetary Resources.4,5  The precious metals are not the only things these aerospace explorers and investors are interested in.  The companies are also using crowd funding as methods of fundraising for their endeavors.  Many of these asteroids contain copious amounts of hydrogen and oxygen.  This reservoir of these elements expands the possibility of water resources for fueling and other uses.4,5   Deep Space Industries already have two spacecrafts ready for launching and mining called, The Dragonfly and The Firefly.6     These companies and executives are set to become the new Vanderbilts, Fords, Rockerfellers, Carnegies, and Morgans of the space frontier.

The take home message

These companies have imagined, studied, planned, and are now executing their plots.  As blacks, I see no reason why this should be an exclusive domain to a few.  Based on this information, I think we should definitely encourage our children to become active competitors and participants in this field.  We already had Dr. Mae Jemison (a black female medical doctor and astronaut).  Also, these can be good investment opportunities for those that have the money or practice group economics.  Lastly, this is motivation to think BIG, and don’t think anything is impossible.  There are other links you can access to read up on this, and view some videos.7,8  Be blessed, motivated and share the knowledge.  God Bless!

Hollywood is kidnapping our kids!!

hollywoodHollywood is kidnapping our children?

by: Dr. Samori Swygert

It’s imperative that we become vigilant stewards and guardians of the quantity, and most important the quality of entertainment that our children ingest.  Outbreaks of violence have become almost predictable and clockwork.  However, as concerned citizens and family members we must take a proactive position in the intervention of the fate of our youth.

Routinely we hear about a massacre, a mass shooting, gang shootout, new recreational street drug, some new lewd and inappropriate dance, or behavioral trend.  We must ask ourselves, “where is all this coming from?”.  We can no longer expect the entertainment industry to have a moral conscious in the production of their material.

We are in an era where the family infrastructure is being redefined on a daily basis.  Traditionally, we were accustomed to mom, dad, sister, and brother.  Currently, these roles have been usurped and hacked by this digital age contagion.  This has substituted the TV for mother, Computer for father, Cellphone for brother, Radio for sister, and has eroded the family bond.  These new mediums consistently inundate and bombard our children with messages that are repeatedly proving to be hazardous for the youth.

The world has morphed into a narcissistic, attention driven, and instant satisfaction society.  The entertainment industry is culpable in the deterioration of society, but rarely is the entertainment industry reigned in for responsibility of material and palatability of content.

Take a sober view and assess the covers of the magazines in your grocery store lines, the video games advertised, the movies featured, the records in rotation, reality shows aired, music videos produced, new age books published, and tell me if you see a recurrent decadent and destructive theme.

The entertainment industry is profiteering hundreds of billions of dollars off the demise of our children!  Sexually explicit videos, movies, and books have pushed adolescent sexual promiscuity, teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases to a new plateau.    When we fail to regulate, monitor, filter, and talk about this material with our children, we allow the entertainment industry to subconsciously impose hazardous behavior into our children’s psyche, and the children passively accept it as innocent entertainment.

Hollywood makes the profit, and we are left with the byproducts to deal with ( early pregnancy,  teen abortion, STDs).   The oversaturation of sex in books like 50 Shades of Grey, and other lustful ghetto street literature induce a dangerous curiosity into the minds of adolescents that are not yet mature, or responsible enough to manage all aspects of adult behavior by themselves.  Sex is a beautiful thing with the right person, and most importantly in a marriage.

However, the ubiquitous and omnipresent emphasis of sex has to contribute to the scores of young children sexually abused, raped, digitally abused on the internet (via compromising videos and pictures) and trafficked.

Do you remember the Steubenville rape case, where these young men engaged in raping an unconscious high school female, and then posted the pictures all over the internet via cellphone pictures, and destroyed this teenager’s reputation and physically violated her without consent?  The allure of trying to become famous by asserting their male sexual prowess got these young men serving jail time.

Look at videogames like: Grand Theft Auto, Black Ops Call of Duty, Thrill Kill, and Soldier of Fortune and observe how pervasive gun violence, and brutality are interweaved in the plot.  Think about movies and TV shows like : The Purge, Blow, Kill Bill, Breaking Bad, Lock Up Raw and a plethora of others and ask yourself “why is drug culture, prison life, and random acts of violence so celebrated now?”.

We have arrived at the clichéd fruition of, art imitating life and life imitating art.   When shooting episodes like Virginia Tech, Newtown, Connecticut,  Aurora, Colorado, Columbine High school, and Jonesboro, Arkansas occur, think about what the youth are consuming. Think about what they are being conditioned and indoctrinated with under the veneer and alias of entertainment. We arrest adolescents on the streets for drug dealing and incarcerate them for the violent acts associated with the drug culture.  However, we give Emmys and Oscars to the producers of shows that prompt youth to experiment with this dead-end lifestyle. NPR published an article this week detailing a research study in the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  The study revealed that  as of 2009, PG-13 movies have more gun violence than Rated-R movies.1

The music has become the soundtrack to self destruction.  When we can turn on the radio and they are rapping about shooting, killing, drugs, sex, and frivolous wasting money, we have a few seconds left before its all over.  The music videos have become soft porn, and encourage our young daughters and sisters to mimic the mannerisms of strippers.

Reality shows teach our women nothing but raucous, ratchet behavior. Think about shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta , Love and HipHop, Bad Girls Club, and others. The shows basically demonstrate and instruct young women how to scream, argue, and instigate violent conflicts without any modeling of positive, mature, lady-like conflict resolution.  The emphasis is this ultra-diva like female that is money hungry, argumentative, irrational, and self-centered.  This is not the type of woman any man wants as a wife, but these shows have our young women believing this is the path to womanhood.  The men depicted in these shows are just as bad.  Routinely the males are father to multiple baby mommas, absentee, consistently delinquent, players with excuses and stories to explain poor decisions they made.

Ironically, I can express what I’m saying by using a movie.  A movie came out a few years ago called, Inception.  The plot involved an agent that performed a psychological manipulation called, Inception.  While performing Inception on his target, he was able to implant thoughts into their mind without them knowing, and the person would then execute the desired goal.

What am I saying?

We need to press the reset button and return to family and community.  We need to have regular communication with our family members and neighbors and redevelop concern about what our kids are doing.  We need to actively and regularly review our children’s phones, tablets, computers, TV shows, radio shows, and videos on Youtube, World Star HipHop, and any other electronic/ digital forms of social media, because our kids are under attack.   The results are devastating and the devil doesn’t leave his fingerprints at the scene of the crime.  He just leaves you with the tragedy to clean up, and the bill to pay.

Who profits?

The financial profit lies in high yield earnings for the private prisons for those that engage in illegal drug activity, pay day for drug companies that get  new patients on Plan B abortificient pills, Antibiotics, or Antiviral medication from high risk sexual activity, a stimulus plan for gun and ammo manufacturers.  Every time a mass shooting occurs, gun sales skyrocket because people feel the government will ban firearms, and people buy as much as possible to avoid being gunless.

The fashion industry makes a killing from young teens purchasing clothing to mimic and emulate the characters or stars in movies, music, and magazines.   The movie industry and gaming industry makes more for the production of more films and games.  The whole time we as a community are suffering the collateral damage of reckless indoctrination of our youth.  It’s 2013 do you know where your children are?

People are to scared to speak up and call BS (bulls$it)  when it happens.  Benefactors of the industry say it’s “creative and edgy”.  That’s a lie, it’s self destructive BS, and people are scared to be called a hater for voicing real concerns.  These actors won’t complain, and will call you a hater because you are interfering with their paycheck, reputation, endorsements, and contracts.  I don’t care about these bought and paid for minstrels, the posterity of our black youth are not for sale!!  I may be on my soapbox, but so what, somebody has to speak up! Like Gil Scott Heron said, ” we got to do something to save the children”. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!!!???
